Safe Adults: Bullying Prevention Month

October is Bullying Prevention Month

According to stopbullying.gov, around 20% of students ages 12-18 report being bullied at school. And since not all bullying always gets reported, it’s safe to say that percentage might be even higher. Bullying can take many forms nowadays, so it’s important to be aware of the signs to keep an eye out for.

Signs a Youth Might Be Experiencing Bullying

  • Unexplainable injuries

  • Loss of interest in school or activities

  • Lost or destroyed items

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Avoidance of social situations

Signs a Youth Might Be Bullying Another

  • Frequent physical or verbal fights

  • Having unexplained extra money or items that are not theirs

  • Blaming others and not taking personal responsibility

  • Having friends who display bullying behaviors

  • Sent to the principal’s office frequently

  • Trusted Adults have the responsibility to help stop bullying, whether that’s by identifying if a young person is being bullied or recognizing if their young person may be the bully.
