Yazmin’s Story
Yazmin is a fifth grader in Scott County.
After our Human Growth and Development class ended, she waited until the other students left and then quietly asked our educator:
“Do you have an extra pad?”
Yazmin had already started her period months earlier, but she didn't have a safe adult she felt comfortable talking to and didn't have access to any period products.
She didn't know what was normal. She didn't know what to prepare.
Until the day she took our class.
Danielle, one of our Health Educators, sat down with Yazmin and explained to her what to expect. She sent her home with supplies and reminded her she wasn't alone.
That moment happened because someone like you made sure a trained educator was in that classroom.
Since we began teaching in Scott County in 2015, the teenage pregnancy rate has dropped by 44%.
Prevention works.
