Rights, Respect, Responsibility (3Rs) is an evidence-informed curriculum that provides middle school and high school students with the knowledge, confidence, and skills necessary to prevent teen pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), while stressing the importance of respect for self and others. Aligned with the National Sexuality Education Standards and the Indiana Academic Standards for Grades K–12 Health and Wellness, 3Rs is a five-session program that is medically accurate, age-appropriate, and designed to be free of social bias. By respecting young people’s right to honest, comprehensive sexual health education, 3Rs helps foster responsibility and empowers students to make safe and healthy choices.

Indiana Code § 20-30-5-13 states, “when sexuality education is taught, abstinence from sexual activity outside of marriage must be stressed. Instruction must teach that abstinence outside of marriage and a mutually monogamous relationship inside of marriage are the best ways to avoid out-of-wedlock pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and other associated health problems.” LifeSmart Youth adheres to Indiana’s legal requirements in our abstinence-based programs. We also utilize the medically accurate definition of abstinence as “not engaging in vaginal, oral, or anal sex.” In accordance with Indiana law SB442, parents of the youth served by LifeSmart Youth are provided “Opt-Out” consent forms for the Human Growth & Development and 3Rs programs.

I was worried that this class was going to be super awkward, but you made everything sound so normal.

Our Instructional Flow

Guardian Consent Forms are sent home with the student twice prior to the start of the class in compliance with Indiana code.

Students are assessed on their entry-level knowledge of the curriculum subject during the first session.

Students complete an exit survey to assess their understanding of the course content.

Review assessments and feedback to ensure programs continue meeting the needs of both teachers and students.

We distribute our “24/7” LSY resource cards to all participants on the last day of programming.

Students complete all five sessions over the course of the program. Our Health Educator will ensure a safe environment where questions are encouraged.
